Golden BAY
Golden Bay is one of Malta s most popular sandy beaches. Despite this accolade, it is set among countryside and is relatively undeveloped. It does have the facilities you need for the day - a café-restaurant, sun lounger and umbrella hire, and plenty of fun water sports from jet skiing and paragliding to banana boat rides. It has easy access making it suitable for the less mobile or those with small children. The atmosphere here is both chic and family fun. As the second largest sandy beach, there is usually room for games. The spectacular sunsets here have made the beach a popular spot for evening barbecues. The beach is generally safe for swimming but it is prone to strong currents when the wind is to the north-west. A red flag indicates when bathing should be limited to shallow waters only. Ghadira
Ghadira is the largest sandy beach on Malta - though still much smaller than many beaches of
the Mediterranean. It lies right next to the main road and can get very busy. These are many beach umbrellas and sun loungers for hire and a good range of snack bars and restaurants. Il Ghadira Beach is quite exposed, so perfect for many water sports.
The water is clear and beautiful - as on many Maltese beaches. The sand is fine and pale. Small children will enjoy the expanse of shallow water - you have to wade out quite a way before it gets very deep.
The town of Mellieha lies above the beach on the hillside. Its narrow, steep streets house many restaurants, small supermarkets and shops selling Maltese souvenirs. (http://www.vrmalta.com/malta-virtual-tour/Il-Ghadira-Beach--Mellieha-Bay.html)

Pretty Bay
Birzebbugia is a flourishing, but small, seaside resort not far from Marsaxlokk in south-east Malta. Its shoreline hugs St George's although the sandy beach is known as Pretty Bay. It has been a popular bathing spot for Maltese holiday-makers for decades. Sand was non-existent and bathers took to the water from the flat rocks or from specially built platforms on the shoreline. In more recent years, the bay was artificially filled with sand recovered from the sea during dredging works for the nearby Freeport. Pretty Bay is now considered a sandy beach. It lies right in the town centre so there are plenty of shops and restaurants along the coastline. Outside Pretty Bay, towards St George's Bay, you'll find a rocky shore ideal for sun bathing and snorkelling. St George's Bay is a lovely inlet used by local fishermen who moor their boats there. The bay is a good venue for water sports such as windsurfing. Next to the small chapel of St George's are some prehistoric cart ruts.
Mellieha Bay
Further north from St Paul's Bay lies the town of Mellieha, which sits on top of a hill, overlooking the 'tail end' of Malta. An attractive hilltop village with a central street winding downhill. It is also surrounded by fertile valleys and most spots provide good panoramas of the countryside, the Bay (which has the longest beach in Malta) and northwards towards Comino and Gozo
